Prisoner's Outreach

“It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails. A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones.”
― Nelson Mandela

We, at LAABH are privileged to have under our umbrella of services, a strong desire to serve the undertrials and prisoners of the Kalyan jail. LAABH maintains good relations with the prison authorities and is one of the few NGO’s who has been asked to conduct special programmes for the inmates.

What makes LAABH special?

LAABH reaches out to the over 1000 under-trials and prisoners within the Kalyan jail in the form of Regular Visits, Legal Counseling, Health Check-ups and Yoga classes. Besides all these activities, the Foundation also runs a family-contact programme. Undertrials are encouraged to engage in some positive contribution in a work-healthy entertainment. Thanks to generous donors, LAABH has also sponsored a few indoor games as well as food and clothing at various times during the year. Special prayer services are organized in a bid to celebrate religious festivals like Id, Diwali and Easter. This year a special prayer session was organized on Good Friday with a focus on the power of forgiveness.

Touched by the love and care showered to them in their time of guilt and abandonment, many are eager to join LAABH post the term they serve in the prison.

Asha (name changed) is a regular volunteer at the health check organized by LAABH Foundation. Asha came into contact with LAABH as an inmate at the Kalyan Jail. While in jail, she was touched by the constant support that she received from LAABH.

“Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals.”

Martin Luther King, Jr.
